    About Interop Testing

Selling advanced services to end-users is the name of the game, and making sure it all works is ours. What counts at the end of the day is that everything works.

Choices for equipment to bring advanced services to the market are numerous, from a supplier market that expands daily. With each system brought into the picture comes a chance that some of the solution’s components will not operate correctly with their mates.

Some of the larger suppliers produce the entire span of equipment for a solution, and they conduct interoperability tests internally to find and iron the kinks out. Other suppliers rely on partnering with others to test and prove their respective components will work together. Providers offering services also face the interoperability problem when they buy large-scale solutions or architect a solution using different suppliers.

Historically system tests are employed for verifying functional correctness, and protocol conformance tests are used to insure a system will interact correctly with its mate across a communications path. However experience with solution architectures shows these tests are not enough. When control, data, and voice traverse complex architectures sometimes things simply don’t work. Interoperability tests are used at the solution architecture level to find and help resolve these unexpected problems. You can pretty well bet that if it all works at the end-to-end level, the constituent pieces are functionally correct and conform to industry standards; call it inductive reasoning.

F1 Interop Solutions has several years of experience in solution testing, manual and automated. This experience has manifested in a large-scale yet flexible testbed architecture that accommodates installation of new equipment into the solution, for testing. This architecture allows multiple testbeds to be configured in scaled back versions of actual deployment topologies.
